The shooting happened on Savin Street in Roxbury. Boston police say they have a person of interest in custody, but officials have not released any information on their identity, CBS Boston reported. Officers had an SVU surrounded at 5 p.m. that Live Boston said belonged to the shooter, but they had fled before police arrived.

Officers said the victim is in critical condition at an area hospital, and authorities have been tight-lipped about her identity. It's unclear how she and the alleged shooter are related.

District Attorney Kevin Hayden said the shooting is another sign of our troubled time.

"Four shootings in the last 24 hours or so, two of which are already fatal," he said, according to CBS. "We need our society's help on this."

Earlier this morning a driver ran over and killed a pedestrian as they crossed Center Street and Columbus in Roxbury near the Jackson Street MBTA station, the prosecutor's office said.

"It's been a rough couple of days," Police Commissioner Michael Cox told CBS. "We want to encourage and let the public know we are doing all we can to make sure the community is safe."
